We have a moose on the loose. This sounds like a fun kids story. Actually, we do have a moose on the loose. I have been taking pictures of a young moose staying down on the creek. Most of the pictures were pretty far away, but this young moose ventured out away from the creek where I could get better pictures without hiking through some pretty deep snow. I thought I would share these pictures with you.
Young bull moose
This young moose has been staying at the creek since Christmas. He would wander up and down the creek on the edge of our property munching on alfalfa in the field but mostly the grasses buried in the snow.
He has such long legs he kneels down in the snow on his front legs and eats the alfalfa. It is fun to watch him paw the snow away while kneeling down on his knees. Moose are somewhat odd-looking animals but at the same time so beautiful and amazing to watch.
This young moose wandered up the creek bank and out into the alfalfa field where I could get a little closer picture. Now when you see a moose they seem pretty mild-mannered as they meander wherever they are going. But just like any wild animal if you get in their way or cross them things can get ugly really fast. A moose really has a reputation for having a quick bad temper.
The main thing to remember about a moose is to make sure you keep a good distance and don’t make them mad. Especially do not get between a cow and her calf. They can be a little protective, but I can’t say I blame them. I would be the same way if I thought someone was going to harm my kids.
I loved watching this moose. To put his size in a little perspective these wheels on this wheel line are 7′ tall. He is a little bigger than something I would like to tangle with, so I stayed a ways back and just used the zoom on my camera. This is a magnificent young moose.
