You might be a Redneck if this is your favorite basketball game.
Here in our little town of Mackay, Idaho we had a great night of fun of basketball. These are not your typical basketball players and they don’t play by your typical rules.

Donkey Basketball
Donkey Basketball, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Yup, these are 4 legged basketball players with a rider. These fun little donkeys have rubber shoes on their hooves and are ready to run. Ok, maybe not run down the court, but sometimes a pretty good little jog down the court to their riders basket.

A good little jog down the basketball court.
The object of the game. The same as a typical basketball game. Make it down the court with the basketball and make a basket. Sound simple? It really is not as simple as it looks. These little donkeys are not very cooperative or happy to do what the rider wants. They sorta have a mind of their own.

Heading for our basket.
Sometimes they choose to move down the court at a little faster pace and other times it doesn’t matter how hard the rider tries they just won’t move.

Donkey Basketball. I just doesn’t get any better than this!
Some of the rules for Donkey Basketball:
- You have to be on the donkey to shoot at the basket.
- The center players, 1 from each team cannot leave their circle. Unless someone makes a basket. If their team makes a basket, the opposite teams center runs to the sideline to throw it in.
- You can get off of your donkey to get a ball that goes out-of-bounds, but you cannot let go of your donkey.

Sometimes they just don’t want to lead!
Sounds pretty simple, but takes a lot of work from the rider to make it all happen.

You just have to try to drag them along. Or not!!!
These are some of the pictures from the donkey basketball game. It is as much fun to watch as it is to play.
