As the Solar Eclipse on August 21 draws near, the excitement in our valley builds. People are expected to visit from all over the world.
This is a once in a lifetime event for most and Lost River Valley in Idaho is the perfect place to view it.
Tips to help you prepare
Many people have family and friends coming to visit. People have made reservations in the campgrounds and motels over a year ago. Officials in our valley are expecting 1000’s of visitors to view this awesome event.
Here are a few tips to help you prepare:
- Make sure you fuel up your vehicle before you reach your destination. In our little valley we only have a handful of gas stations. Gas may be short, when it is time to go home.
- Make sure you have plenty of food and bottled water. We only have 2 grocery stores with a limited supply on hand. We do have the greatest water around to drink. If you like your water bottled, Mackay has its own water bottling company.
- Camping spots and motels have been booked well in advance for this great event. Don’t expect to drive in and find a place to stay that day.
Once in a lifetime event
While coming to our valley for the Total Solar Eclipse will be fun and rewarding, it is a good idea to be prepared. Solar Eclipse glasses can be purchased at many of the local businesses. Be sure and get a pair and enjoy a great viewing experience.
Please help keep our valley safe and beautiful. We had record amounts of snowfall and rain this past winter, as a result we have tall dry grasses causing high fire danger. Help prevent forest fires.
Enjoy your visit!
We hope you will enjoy your visit to the Lost River Valley for the 2017 Solar Eclipse. There are many events in Mackay and Arco to entertain you while you stay. Check out our local paper “The Advertiser” for a list of events.
