Colostrum is the first mothers milk for any animal. It is important for the baby to have this first milk if the animal is to survive. For calves it is important and after researching this is what I have discovered.
Grafting a calf onto another cow is sometimes necessary. Losing a calf is disappointing at the least. Not only because it is your lively hood but because you hate to lose those baby calves. But sometimes no matter how hard you try it just happens.
After talking with many homesteaders I found one of the things they struggle with the most is time. My son always says “I ran out of day!” I think we would find this problem with homesteaders, farmers, ranchers, parents and many other people on any given day.
