Head colds or sinus problems are probably one of the worst things about winter. It is hard to avoid all the illnesses that go around.
Fighting a head cold or sinus problems
Congestion and sinus headaches are at times unbearable. Not only does it make it hard to breathe but it also makes it hard to sleep or get any kind of rest or relief. There may be a way to get relief when you need it the most.
Natural remedies that work for me
I am going to share with you what I do for the congestion and just the yucky headaches, stuffiness and coughing that go with it. (Remember I am not a doctor and I don’t even play one on my blog.) I want to share these ideas so maybe you can feel better. These are just some of the things I do to help me get through it.
Always use caution with children
One comment I would like to make, caution should always be used when applying on children. Always use a carrier oil when applying oils. If the oil is to hot (heat of the oil) add more carrier oil, do not put water on it to try to cool it off! You can always put the essential oil onto a tissue or a cotton ball for a child and place next to where they are sleeping or you can put the oils on the bottom of the feet.
I love essential oils. I have been using oils for over 23 years and have a lot of respect for the power of essential oils. They really work for me!
When fighting a nasty head cold or allergy the first oil I reach for is Breezy. This is a blend of oils especially combined to help relieve congestion. An added benefit to some people is it may help them breathe easier at night to alleviate snoring.
Carrier Oils
When I have a head cold I use a carrier oil which is a blend of oils, or many types of oils such as coconut oil. I put a little in the palm of my hand, about the size of a dime, and then add a drop of Breezy. (Remember oils are really potent and a lot is not always better).
How to apply
I then take my index finger and put a little of this mixture on it and swipe across my forehead, on my temples (keep away from your eyes) and on the back of my neck. If I have someone willing or I can reach it by myself, then I put it on my shoulders and on my back. I love the relief I get from this as it starts to work and the sinuses start to drain.
For the Sinuses
Another oil I like to use to help bring me relief is MelaPlus. I use this with a carrier oil the same way as with the Breezy. I put a swipe under my cheekbones on both sides of my face. The remainder can also be rubbed on your back or on your chest. This helps me get those painful areas on my face to drain.
I also like to use a diffuser while I sleep and even throughout the day if I am really congested. I usually put Breezy, or Peppermint into the diffuser. This helps put the little droplets of oil into the air for you to breathe. It may also help clean your air. Anything to help stop the spread of those nasty bugs.
Chest congestion
Another oil you may want to consider would be Aspire. If you are having issues with the lungs and coughing this may be something you would like to add. Use a carrier the same way you did before and put a drop of Aspire Breezyinto the carrier oil. I like to rub this one on my chest.
There are many natural remedies that can be used to fight the nasty flu bugs and possibly bring you relief. Hopefully, you will be prepared when they come along for you or someone you care about.
I hope you enjoyed my blog post. If you or someone you love is battling this nasty bug I wish you the best and hope you get over it quickly.
